Robinson can never return to the world he left behind. So, inch by inch, he builds his small kingdom. He has a house, fortresses to defend himself, and a servant, Friday, who is devoted to him body and soul. He even has a dog, which calmly ages in the sun of Speranza. The island is a small bastion of civilization and everything seems to be going well. The truth is that all three are bored. Friday understands nothing of the organization, the laws, the rituals that please Robinson so much. He misses the point of the cultivated fields, the herds, the fortresses.
