Pepsi is a very intelligent boy who lives on the streets of some South American city - his mother died and his father, a famous politician, abandoned him. With him is a kidnapped girl, Maria, who found a true "brother" in Pepsi. Pepsi's mission is to return Maria home - a shantytown she calls "Paradise". But to do so, he must escape the pursuit of Caddy, a sadistic police officer whose obsession is to kill the two children - as a personal vendetta, but also as part of his crusade to rid the city of the "trash" of street children.
In this harsh but fantastic novel, Zameenzad gives us a penetrating insight into the lives of the dispossessed in modern society. Paradoxically, the street children's love for life and beauty makes their dramatic story, despite the terrible reality of their lives, a song of hope for a better life, amidst adventures that are, at times, amusing.
