The religious meaning

This book identifies the essence of rationality and the root of human consciousness in the religious sense. According to the Author, the religious sense is situated at the level of each man's elementary experience, in which the self formulates questions about the meaning of life, of reality, of everything that happens. In fact, reality awakens fundamental questions about the total meaning of existence. The content of the religious sense coincides with these questions and with the answer to them.
Luigi Giussani leads the reader to discover the original sense of dependence on an Other. A discovery that exalts reason as the capacity to open oneself to reality according to the totality of its factors. Giussani shows that man - whose nature is a demand for truth and fulfillment, that is, for happiness - committed to his own humanity, intuits the answer implicit in his original dynamism.

Thus, the hypothesis of revelation arises, that is, that the unknown Mystery takes the initiative and allows itself to be known, coming to meet man. Christianity responds to the religious sense precisely because it presents itself as an unpredictable, but fully reasonable, answer to man's desire to live by discovering and loving his own destiny.
