The chestnut seller

A stormy October morning. In a quiet Copenhagen suburb, the police make a terrible discovery. In a school playground, a young woman is found brutally murdered, and one of her hands is missing. Hanging above her is a small doll made of chestnuts.
The young and ambitious detective Naia Thulin is assigned to the case. With her colleague Mark Hess, an investigator who has just been expelled from Europol, they discover a mysterious piece of evidence about "the chestnut man," the name the media has given the killer. There is evidence linking him to a girl who disappeared a year earlier and was presumed dead: the daughter of minister Rosa Hartung.

But the man who confessed to the girl's murder, a young man suffering from a mental illness, is already behind bars and the case has long been closed. When a second woman is found dead, and next to her, another chestnut doll, Thulin and Hess suspect there might be a connection between the Hartung case and the murdered women.

But what is the relationship between the two deaths? Thulin and Hess are in a race against time. The killer has a mission and is far from finished.
