"The Great Book of Piracy and Privateering is the result of the doctoral thesis presented by Luís Ramalhosa Guerreiro at the Sorbonne, by the current Professor of the History of Portuguese Discoveries at the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon. It is interesting to note that the author had to leave Portugal due to the repression of the Estado Novo and that his thesis was rejected here.
It is an excellent book about acts of piracy and privateering carried out mainly by Europeans, with a special focus on the 16th and 17th centuries. This study is also a beautiful document on European history.
