Olivia Rönning is a student at the Stockholm Police Academy. She must choose an unsolved crime to prove whether, with current technological resources, it would be possible to solve the case. A terrible crime sparks her interest: the murder of a pregnant woman in 1987, on a beach, on a night of high tide.
Olivia reopens the crime investigation and, in search of clues, looks for Tom Stilton, the inspector responsible for the case, only to discover that he has mysteriously disappeared.
At the same time, news emerges of beatings of homeless people on the streets of Stockholm, whose cruelty shocks public opinion: the acts of extreme violence are filmed by the aggressors and posted online.
Determined to solve the crime, Olivia eventually discovers that Tom Stilton is currently homeless. Tom is more interested in avenging the crimes perpetrated against his peers than in helping Olivia, but together they will eventually join forces and unearth a past with surprising revelations.
An intricate plot about social delinquency and high-level crimes, which develops in a crescendo of suspense until it reaches a breathtaking ending.
