Stolen from Salazar's estate during the invasion of his former chambers on April 25, 1974, the manuscript "The Secret Memoirs of Queen D. Amélia", written in her final years and donated by herself to the House of Braganza in Lisbon, through the hands of the head of the Estado Novo, was recovered in Sofia, Bulgaria, during the Commemoration of the Centenary of the Republic, by Miguel Real, who was tasked with depositing it in the Torre do Tombo, which he has already done.
In this manuscript, Queen D. Amélia portrays her life in twelve short chapters, one for each month of the year, organized into four main parts, following the rhythm of the seasons, from Spring, in her childhood, to the sad Winter of her old age. A poignant, painful, and moving document, strongly critical of Portugal and the Portuguese, permanently deluded by the artifices of inept and ignorant elites.
