A novel that Joaquim Paço d'Arcos dedicates to life in the Portuguese capital, to a certain Lisbon inhabited by the rising upper bourgeoisie and what remains of a decadent aristocracy, nostalgic for a monarchy that even the powerful hand of a dictator, perhaps monarchist, could not bring back to life.
