Love in St. Petersburg

The 1914 New Year's ball at the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg brings together, for the first time, German officer Gregor von Puttlach and Russian aristocrat Grazina Vladimirovna. The two fall in love on the eve of World War I and the October Revolution of 1917, which would put an end to Russian tsarism. With Germany and Russia on opposing sides, Gregor is forced to choose between his homeland and love. The events unfold in the court salons, in the vast feudal estates of the Russian nobles, and finally, in the rugged and unknown Siberia. Konsalik takes the reader to the confines of Asia and a Europe devastated by war, as two lovers fight to the end for the right to unite their destinies above politics and war.
