A tragic story of forbidden and unrequited love, "Amor de Perdição" (Doomed Love) is the most well-known work by Camilo Castelo Branco, one of Portugal's greatest writers. Written in Porto's Prison of Relação in 1861, over six months, "Amor de Perdição" is inspired by the true story of Simão António Botelho, the author's paternal uncle, who was exiled to India in 1807.
