The Wonderful Adventures of Nils

‘It would be a pity,’ he thought, ‘if the goose were to leave. It would be a great loss for father and mother if it had left when they arrived from church.’
Thinking this, he once again completely forgot that he was small and helpless. He jumped into the middle of the flock of ducks and put his arms around the goose’s neck.
“Oh, no! You’re not going this time!” he shouted.
But at that very moment, the goose had discovered what it needed to do to lift itself from the ground. It couldn’t free itself from the boy, and so Nils flew with it.”

Thus began Nils Holgersson's amazing journey through Sweden.
