It tells the story of a noble family from Vilar de Corvos, struck by various tragedies.
In Casa Mourisca, only the old nobleman D. Luís now lives, devastated by the death of his wife and youngest daughter, and his sons Jorge and Maurício. It is they who try to reverse the family's decline, restoring prestige to the house and bringing prosperity to their lands.
The drama arises from the love affair between Jorge and Berta da Póvoa, daughter of D. Luís's former caretaker, who returns to the village after being educated in the city.
Os Fidalgos da Casa Mourisca was the last novel written by Júlio Dinis, having been published in 1871, after his death.
