The gods of guilt

After losing the race for district attorney, Los Angeles defense attorney Mickey Haller foresees the end of his career. His relationship with his ex-wife is increasingly distant, and their daughter refuses to speak to a father who always defends the bad guy. But when he receives a text message on his phone, "Call me quickly - 187," alluding to the California Penal Code section defining homicide, Mickey doesn't think twice and takes on a case that, he hopes, will bring him back to the grand stage of the courtroom. He quickly discovers that the victim was a former client of his, a prostitute he had once defended and believed he had rescued from the streets, in what will be just the first hint of a shadowy game between the DEA and the most fearsome of Mexican cartels: the Sinaloa Cartel.
